Purpose of Policy

The congregation of Olive Branch Church welcomes you and prays God’s blessing upon your pending marriage.  We look forward to the possibility of being of service to you during this exciting process.  This policy is intended to give you all the information necessary to make this occasion a meaningful one and assure that the wedding and tasks run smoothly.  Please note that the pastoral staff reserves the right to refuse to perform the ceremony at any time.

The Bride and Groom

A man and woman desiring to be married at Olive Branch Church or by an Olive Branch Church ordained minister must meet the following requirements:

  • Have a valid Tennessee marriage license.
  • Present evidence before wedding date of having completed premarital counseling with an Olive Branch staff minister, another minister, or a qualified counselor.
  • Previously married individuals should present a copy of the previous marriage(s) divorce decree and a written statement regarding the circumstances that led to the end of the previous marriage(s).
  • Clear the date for the wedding with the church office if using the church facilities.
  • The marriage license is to be given to the officiating minister at the wedding rehearsal.

NOTE:  Absolutely, no same sex marriages as stated in the Olive Branch Church Constitution and Bylaws.

Premarital Counseling

The wedding may be officiated by an Olive Branch Church ordained minister or by a visiting ordained minister.  An honorarium for the officiating minister is appropriate.  Marriage, being serious and sacred, requires careful preparation.  Solid biblical marriages do not happen by chance, but rather take forethought and effort to ensure that both of you will be prepared for a lifetime together.  For this reason, Olive Branch Church requires premarital counseling for members by the Officiating Minister.  An active member wedding is one in which the bride or groom has been a member of the church for at least 6 months and has completed the New Members Orientation.

Personnel

Musicians:  The church does not provide musicians for the wedding.  However, Olive Branch Church musicians and qualified visiting musicians may use the piano.  It is appropriate to provide an honorarium for the musicians.

Sound Technician: Only church approved technicians may use the church sound system.  The technician’s fee is included in the basic fess for a wedding.

Custodian: The church will be cleaned before and after your wedding.  The custodian’s fee is included on the wedding fees list.

Wedding Ministry Leader:  Olive Branch Church will not provide a wedding coordinator/planner.  Your personal wedding coordinator/planner will be responsible for the flow of your wedding and will be the general contact person for facility usage.   Olive Branch Church will have the OBC Wedding Ministry Leader as a contact person available to assist you with accessing facility resources.

Reservations

Reservations must be made (at least 60 days in advance) with the church office for rehearsal, ceremony, and reception dates and for all needed facilities and equipment.  The OBC General Wedding Information Form, the OBC Facility Policy and the OBC Facility Use Agreement must be completed in order to reserve event dates.  A $150 non-refundable deposit is required to secure your wedding dates sixty (60) days prior.  The check should be written to Olive Branch Church.
